Issue №: 2 (41)

Published: 2026.04.17
DOI: 10.37128/2707-5826-2026-2

Description:
This issue of the journal is dedicated to current issues in improving technological methods for crop cultivation. Significant attention is given to the specifics of growing vegetable, grain and leguminous crops, which play a vital role in ensuring the state's food security. The scientific publications present the results of experimental research on the production of organic leguminous products, the importance of adaptive breeding to increase the resilience of agrocenoses, plant protection against harmful objects and the application of fertilizers to increase crop yields. Certain papers are devoted to the implementation of innovative methods for stimulating the seed productivity of forest seed plantations.

Annotation

The National Plant Genebank of Ukraine is among the ten largest genebanks in the world in terms of volume and diversity: 157.2 thousand samples of 2020 plant species. The majority of the samples – over 110 thousand – belong to crops that reproduce by seeds. Their long-term storage is carried out in the National Repository of the Plant Gene Pool Accessions of Ukraine (Yuryev Plant Production Institute of NAAS) (hereinafter referred to as the Repository). The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between the durability of seed samples of various crops stored in the Repository and the content of reserve substances in it – proteins, starch and oil. We analyzed the change in the content of reserve nutrients in the seeds of cereal crops - bread and durum winter wheats, rye and triticale; legumes - peas and soybeans, which were stored in the Storage in a freezer for 12 years in a dried state in hermetically sealed foil bags at a negative temperature of -20 ° C. The seeds of the tested samples in the vast majority significantly reduced germination. At the same time, changes occurred in the content of reserve substances in the seeds. No connection was observed between changes in the content of reserve nutrients and changes in seed germination during storage. In cereal crops - bread and durum winter wheats, rye and triticale - with an overall slight decrease in seed germination over a period of 12 years, a significant increase in the protein content in it by 0.2-1.65% was observed. In winter triticale, the increase in protein content ranged from 0.96 to 2.42%. In the legume pea, on the contrary, the protein content decreased by 0.96-8.09%. In soybeans, both an increase and a decrease in protein content occurred. The starch content in winter triticale increased from 7.42 to 8.92%. In soybeans, the oil content decreased in almost all samples except one. Possible reasons for these changes are discussed.

Keywords: seeds, storage, low temperatures, reserve substances, grain and legume crops.
