Issue №: 3 (42)
The issue of the magazine is devoted to topical issues of improving technological methods of growing agricultural crops. Considerable attention is paid to the peculiarities of growing vegetable, grain and leguminous crops, which play an important role in ensuring the food security of the state. Scientific publications present the results of experimental research on the fertilization of grain crops, the importance of soil moisture for the formation of friendly seedlings of field crops, as well as the effectiveness of technological methods of growing agricultural crops. Separate works of European scientists highlight the issue of pre-sowing seed treatment and the use of biological preparations to protect plants from harmful objects. The issue of effective use of the forest fund of enterprises, increasing the role of agroforestry in the creation of sustainable food systems and the creation of targeted wood plantations was also considered.

The article presents the results of experimental studies investigating the influence of genetic characteristics of maize hybrids belonging to different maturity groups and plant population densities on yield formation and pre-harvest grain moisture content. Field experiments were conducted in 2025 at the experimental site of the “Agronomichne” Research Farm on grey forest soils. The research objects included early-maturing hybrids ЕС Sirius (FAO 200) and Anovi KS (FAO 220), mid-early hybrids ЕС Perspektyv (FAO 240), DKC 3609 (FAO 260), and DKC 3937 (FAO 290), as well as mid-maturing hybrids DKC 4031 (FAO 310), DKC 4125 (FAO 330), DKC 4433 (FAO 340), DKC 4655 (FAO 340), DKC 4533 (FAO 360), DKC 4897 (FAO 380), and DKC 4933 (FAO 390). Five plant density treatments were evaluated, including 50,000, 60,000, 70,000, 80,000, and 90,000 plants per hectare. It was established that, under production conditions, the most rational approach is the cultivation of two or three maize hybrids belonging to different maturity groups, as this ensures a more uniform implementation of technological operations and improves the efficiency of machinery and tractor fleet utilization. Pre-harvest grain moisture content ranged from 19.7 to 27.6% and was determined by both the genetic characteristics of hybrids and plant density. An increase in the duration of the growing season was accompanied by a consistent rise in grain moisture: the average value for early-maturing hybrids was 20.32%, for mid-early hybrids – 23.13%, and for mid-maturing hybrids – 25.67%. The increased moisture content of maize grain requires additional drying to achieve the standard moisture level of 14%, which leads to higher energy consumption and a reduction in the economic efficiency of production. Furthermore, harvesting grain with elevated moisture content complicates the technological process and increases the risk of mechanical damage to seeds. The lowest pre-harvest grain moisture content was recorded at a plant density of 60,000 plants per hectare. At the same time, the highest yield levels (13.26–13.43 t/ha) were achieved at densities ranging from 70,000 to 80,000 plants per hectare. A further increase in plant population density to 90,000 plants per hectare resulted in reduced productivity, which can be attributed to intensified intraspecific competition among plants for light, moisture, and nutrient resources. A comparative analysis of yield performance demonstrated the superiority of mid-maturing hybrids, which achieved productivity levels ranging from 13.91 to 14.62 t/ha. Mid-early hybrids produced yields within the range of 10.91–13.01 t/ha, whereas early-maturing hybrids showed lower productivity, ranging from 8.43 to 8.64 t/ha. The average yield values for the respective maturity groups were 8.54, 11.79, and 14.27 t/ha. Thus, the scientifically based selection of maize hybrids according to maturity groups, combined with an optimal plant density, ensures a rational balance between grain yield and moisture content, while also contributing to the reduction of post-harvest processing costs.
