The issue of the magazine is devoted to topical issues of improving technological methods of growing agricultural crops. Considerable attention is paid to the peculiarities of growing vegetable, grain and leguminous crops, which play an important role in ensuring the food security of the state. Scientific publications present the results of experimental research on the fertilization of grain crops, the importance of soil moisture for the formation of friendly seedlings of field crops, as well as the effectiveness of technological methods of growing agricultural crops. Separate works of European scientists highlight the issue of pre-sowing seed treatment and the use of biological preparations to protect plants from harmful objects. The issue of effective use of the forest fund of enterprises, increasing the role of agroforestry in the creation of sustainable food systems and the creation of targeted wood plantations was also considered.
THE INFLUENCE OF ELEMENTS OF GROWING TECHNOLOGY ON THE FORMATION OF THE BALANCE OF NUTRIENTS IN GRAIN SORGHUM CROPS

This article presents the results of field studies to study the influence of nitrogen fertilizer application rates and plant density on the removal and balance of nutrients in grain sorghum crops. The research scheme included plant density at the time of full emergence of 100, 140, 180 thousand pcs./ha and options with fertilizer application: no fertilizer (control), N60Р60K60, N90Р60K60, N120Р60K60. The object of the study was the hybrid of grain sorghum Sentinel from the company Advanta. During 2023–2025, the research was conducted on the basis of Uman National University. The soil of the experimental site is podzolized heavy loamy chernozem, which had an increased and high supply of nutrients. Research methods: short-term field experiment to establish the influence of fertilizers and plant density on the yield of grain sorghum, calculation – to determine the removal and balance of nutrients in the soil under different elements of cultivation technology. The results of the research showed that the application of P60K60 under plowing + N120 in pre-sowing cultivation at a plant density of 140 thousand pcs./ha provided the highest grain and stalk yields of grain sorghum – 8.67 and 28.24 t/ha, respectively, with an increase compared to the control without fertilizers – by 1.76 and 4.94 t/ha. With the grain yield, grain sorghum brought out mainly nitrogen, with stalking – mainly potassium. The greatest removal of nutrients by the grain yield of grain sorghum was observed at the dose of fertilizers N120Р60K60 and a plant density of 140 thousand pcs./ha: nitrogen – 224 kg/ha, phosphorus – 46, potassium – 196 kg/ha with an increase compared to the control without fertilizers – respectively by 50, 10 and 48 kg/ha or 29%, 28% and 32%. In the composition of the biological removal ratio N:Р:K = 4.9:1:4.3. At the same time, the share of nitrogen removal by grain relative to biological removal was 67%, phosphorus – 72%, potassium – 19%, stalks – 33%, 28% and 81%, respectively. The best technological conditions for growing grain sorghum, which ensured a grain yield of over 8.5 t/ha against the background of a slight nitrogen deficiency in the soil, a positive balance of phosphorus and potassium, were created by leaving the stalks on the field, a plant density of 140 thousand pcs./ha and applying P60K60 under plowing + N120 in pre-sowing cultivation: the nitrogen deficiency in the soil was -31 kg/ha, the balance of phosphorus and potassium was positive in the amount of 27 and 23 kg/ha, respectively. These elements of the technology formed sustainable foundations for growing grain sorghum in conditions of unstable moisture on podzolized heavy loamy chernozem.

The aim of the journal "Agriculture and Forestry" is to highlight the results of fundamental and applied research in the fields of agriculture and forestry, aimed at improving the efficiency of agricultural production and introducing modern technologies into farming practice.

The scientific, production, and educational journal "Agriculture and Forestry" is a peer-reviewed open-access publication that publishes original experimental research, theoretical and practice-oriented articles within the cluster of "Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences".
The journal's subject matter covers such areas as agronomy and forestry. Publications of scientific and practical significance address the experimental foundations of agricultural and forestry sector development, innovative production technologies, and the results of fundamental and applied research aimed at increasing productivity, product quality, and the sustainable development of natural and production systems.
