Annotation

The article presents the results of two-year studies (2024-2025) aimed at a comprehensive assessment of the quality indicators of carrot root crops and determining their suitability for long-term storage in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe.  The relevance of the work is due to the need to increase the efficiency of vegetable production, reduce post-harvest losses and provide the population with high-quality and safe root crops throughout the year.  The research was conducted on the basis of the educational and research farm «Agronomichne» of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University. The object of the study was the early-ripening Abako F1 carrot hybrid, grown according to the recommended technological parameters. The subject of the study was the morphological, commercial and physico-chemical quality indicators of root crops, as well as their keeping quality and safety during long-term storage. The assessment of product quality was carried out in accordance with the requirements of DSTU 7035:2009 and the current hygienic standards of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. It was established that the total loss of carrots during storage can reach 48.2%, of which natural mass losses are 8.9%, mechanical damage – 6.8%, disease damage – 11.6%, other losses are associated with physiological processes. The results obtained confirm that the level of product safety significantly depends on the quality of root crops, the conditions of their formation and compliance with the technology of cultivation and storage. According to the results of laboratory studies, the product fully complies with regulatory safety requirements. The content of radionuclides Cs-137 was 2.11 Bq/kg (with a norm of ≤40 Bq/kg), Sr-90 –  0.917 Bq/kg (with a norm of ≤20 Bq/kg). The mass fraction of nitrates was 29.7 mg/kg at the maximum permissible level of 250 mg/kg. The content of lead and cadmium did not exceed the established standards. The obtained data indicate the high quality and ecological safety of the studied hybrid, as well as the feasibility of its use for obtaining products suitable for long-term storage. The results of the research can be used to improve the technology of carrot cultivation and reduce post-harvest losses in Ukrainian farms. The work is aimed at developing and scientifically substantiating modern biologized technologies for growing agricultural crops, which ensure an increase in their productivity, environmental sustainability and economic efficiency in the conditions of recovery of the agricultural sector of Ukraine.
