Description:
The issue of the magazine is devoted to topical issues of improving technological methods of growing agricultural crops. Considerable attention is paid to the peculiarities of growing vegetable, grain and leguminous crops, which play an important role in ensuring the food security of the state. Scientific publications present the results of experimental research on the fertilization of grain crops, the importance of soil moisture for the formation of friendly seedlings of field crops, as well as the effectiveness of technological methods of growing agricultural crops. Separate works of European scientists highlight the issue of pre-sowing seed treatment and the use of biological preparations to protect plants from harmful objects. The issue of effective use of the forest fund of enterprises, increasing the role of agroforestry in the creation of sustainable food systems and the creation of targeted wood plantations was also considered.

Annotation

The article presents the research results on the biometric indicators and productivity of forest plantations featuring Northern red oak (Quercus rubra L.) within the North-Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. The study aimed to identify the growth patterns of this introduced species across various forest types, evaluate its competitive interaction with associated dendroflora, and substantiate the feasibility of its plantation cultivation. The research objects included mixed stands aged 21 to 69 years located in fresh oak forest (D2) and fresh mixed oak-pine forest (C2) conditions within the Sumy region. The methodology involved establishing temporary sample plots, conducting a complete tree tally, determining mensuration parameters (height, diameter, volume, and increment), and performing statistical data processing. The relevance of monitoring biometric parameters is driven by the need to assess the species' adaptive potential and its role as a stand-forming edaphicator. Analysis by Factor A (Stand Age) in the D2 forest type revealed intensive development of the main species: between ages 38 and 69, average height increased from 22.4 m to 26.9 m, and diameter from 22.1 cm to 32.4 cm. Regarding Factor B (Species Composition), pronounced interspecific competition was identified, where Northern red oak acts as the absolute dominant of the first story, suppressing associated species (ash, elm, maple), whose heights at age 38 were nearly half those of the main species (8.0–13.0 m). Generalization of biomass accumulation data indicates that at age 69, the growing stock reaches 485.1 m³/ha, with 97 % of the productivity formed by Northern red oak and its mean annual increment rising to 6.81 m³/ha. In the fresh mixed oak-pine forest (C2), it was determined that Northern red oak outgrows introduced conifers after the age of 30, eventually displacing them from the stand composition. At age 43, the oak volume in C2 conditions was found to be 303.0 m³/ha. The study revealed that the total volume of associated coniferous species diminishes to a negligible 4.1 m³/ha, confirming the aggressive growth nature of this introduced species. It was established that Northern red oak ensures the formation of high commercial volumes over a shortened rotation period, which is a significant factor for optimizing forest management. The results confirm the high adaptability and growth vigor of Quercus rubra L., supporting its recommendation for establishing targeted commercial timber plantations in the North-Eastern Forest-Steppe.

Scientific journal "AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY" was founded  in 1995;  it was entitled as  Bulletin of Vinnytsya State Agricultural Institute.

In 2010-2014 was enritled as Collection of scientific works of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University.

It has been named as Agriculture and Forestry since 2015.

Listed in the updated list of scientific professional editions of Ukraine on agricultural sciences under the name Agriculture and Forestry (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine of May 16, 2016; No. 515).
